Over 49% of the total death toll has been recorded in the State in the past 54 days. As many as 2,691 Covid patients have succumbed to infection since 31 May at a daily average of almost 50 deaths. The surge in deaths had begun to emerge after the launch of the district-level audit for death recount.
The state now has 22,299 active cases, while 9,20,646 people have recovered from the disease to date, including 2,605 on Wednesday.
The State’s COVID management presents an intriguingly contrasting picture- steady decline in positive cases coupled with upward trend in the fatality graph.
Meanwhile, the active cases have come down to 25,461 with daily recoveries breaching the virus infections. As many as 3,120 patients who were either home isolated or hospitalized recuperated from the disease in the past 24 hours.
The former Karnataka CM has requested all those who came in contact with him in the last few days to check out for symptoms and quarantine themselves.
Meanwhile, Karnataka reported 5,532 cases of Coronavirus last evening, taking the statewide total to 1,34,819.
At the global front, the total number of Coronavirus cases surpassed the 18 million-mark, while the deaths neared 6,88,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
The approval for conducting phase 2 and 3 clinical trials by the SII was granted by DCGI Dr VG Somani late Sunday night after a thorough evaluation based on the recommendations of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19.
