Over 49% of the total death toll has been recorded in the State in the past 54 days. As many as 2,691 Covid patients have succumbed to infection since 31 May at a daily average of almost 50 deaths. The surge in deaths had begun to emerge after the launch of the district-level audit for death recount.
The state now has 22,299 active cases, while 9,20,646 people have recovered from the disease to date, including 2,605 on Wednesday.
The State’s COVID management presents an intriguingly contrasting picture- steady decline in positive cases coupled with upward trend in the fatality graph.
Meanwhile, the active cases have come down to 25,461 with daily recoveries breaching the virus infections. As many as 3,120 patients who were either home isolated or hospitalized recuperated from the disease in the past 24 hours.
"We must strengthen vigilance, mobilise ourselves to respect barrier measures, common sense gestures in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic", the health authorities said.
At the global front, the total number of Coronavirus cases rose to 18,908,111, with deaths reaching 710,318, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
The last time the US recorded more than 2,000 deaths in 24 hours was on May 7.
The number of recoveries increased to 51,395, with 1,561 new recoveries, while the number of active cases reached 25,956.
The data, released through the Novel Coronavirus National Science and Technology Resource Service System came from both COVID-19 case samples and environmental samples.
