India logs 2.59 lakh fresh Covid cases, 1,761 deaths in 24 hours

The country’s total caseload now stands at 1,50,61,919 with 19,29,329 active Covid-19 cases. This is the fifth straight day that the country has recorded over 2 lakh cases.
This is clear from the order of the Division Bench which has directed West Bengal’s chief electoral officer and all District Magistrates to abide by the norms relating to Covid, and endorsed by the Election Commission.
He tweeted, “In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.”
Expressing concern over the snow balling of new Covid- 19 infections in Kashmir as worrying, the MPs in a statement said that the administration has failed to learn lessons from first wave of Covid-19 to improve its response to the emerging new Covid-19 peak in Kashmir. They stated that people are yet to tide over the rampage induced by Covid-19 and the subsequent failed lockdowns.
The Health Ministry said, “Though VOCs and a new double mutant variant have been found in India, these have not been detected in numbers sufficient to either establish a direct relationship or explain the rapid increase in cases in some states.”
According to the Health Ministry, Maharashtra, Punjab and Gujarat are turning out to be a major cause of worry as the three states are recording the highest daily new coronavirus cases.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)’s Covid-19 Guidelines for April, issued today, emphasised the need “to strictly follow the prescribed containment strategy, and strictly observe the guidelines/SOPs issued by MHA and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW) and other Ministries/Departments of the Central Government and State/UT Governments."
Second dose of the vaccine can be taken between four and eight weeks, which was earlier allowed between four to six weeks
According to the Health Ministry, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are exhibiting a steep rise in daily cases.
