India logs 2.59 lakh fresh Covid cases, 1,761 deaths in 24 hours

This is clear from the order of the Division Bench which has directed West Bengal’s chief electoral officer and all District Magistrates to abide by the norms relating to Covid, and endorsed by the Election Commission.
He tweeted, “In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.”
Expressing concern over the snow balling of new Covid- 19 infections in Kashmir as worrying, the MPs in a statement said that the administration has failed to learn lessons from first wave of Covid-19 to improve its response to the emerging new Covid-19 peak in Kashmir. Oxford Institute vaccine Covishield which is being developed by Pune based Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin has been approved by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Sunday for emergency use for immunisation against Covid-19.
The country’s overall coronavirus caseload now stands at 1,02,66,674 with 2,57,656 active Covid-19 cases. The active Covid-19 cases comprises 2.51 per cent of the total caseload. The active caseload has remained below the three lakh mark for the tenth consecutive day.
The principal secretary (medical education and research) DK Tiwari said it was part of the master plan conceived by the state government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to contain the spread of the new virus in Punjab.
On Tuesday, the government had reported the first six cases of the new strain of Covid-19.
