India logs 2.59 lakh fresh Covid cases, 1,761 deaths in 24 hours

This is clear from the order of the Division Bench which has directed West Bengal’s chief electoral officer and all District Magistrates to abide by the norms relating to Covid, and endorsed by the Election Commission.
He tweeted, “In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.”
Expressing concern over the snow balling of new Covid- 19 infections in Kashmir as worrying, the MPs in a statement said that the administration has failed to learn lessons from first wave of Covid-19 to improve its response to the emerging new Covid-19 peak in Kashmir. They stated that people are yet to tide over the rampage induced by Covid-19 and the subsequent failed lockdowns.
The signing on Thursday came one day after the House of Representatives approved the measure in a starkly partisan vote of 220-211. Last week, the evenly split Senate narrowly passed the bill by a vote of 50 to 49, Xinhua news agency reported.
The country recorded 22,854 new Covid-19 cases and 126 fatalities, bringing the national infection tally to 1,12,85,961 while the death toll reached 1,58,189, according to the Union health ministry.
The Centre is regularly holding high-level review meetings with the states and Union territories showing a surge in new daily cases.
After a peak of nearly 98,000 fresh daily Covid-19 cases in September 2020, the number of new cases reported per day had fallen steadily to reach below 10,000 in mid-February, but the trend has reversed in the last two weeks.
The next phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive for people above 60 years and those aged 45 and above with comorbidities will begin from March 1. Registration on the Co- WIN2.0 portal will open at 9 a.m.
