Police recover unknown body from jungle

The Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) has recovered a body of an unknown person from a jungle near a closed open cast coal mine in Kalipahari area, under Asansol South police station here this morning.

Andal police have recovered the body of an unidentified person from Jambadh open cast coal mine in Banbahal area last night. The unidentified body has been sent to Asansol District Hospital for post-mortem.

CIL mine awarded by central agency

A coal mine of the Eastern Coalfields Limited of Coal India, operating 200 metres below the surface, has topped the country in question of safer mining and has been awarded by the Director General of Mines Safety.

Time to pause

It bears recall that at the Glasgow climate summit last November, all countries, including India, had agreed to the procedure of coal phase-down chiefly to curb global emissions and warming. Green activists wonder whether the detailed project report and the assessment report on the environmental impact have been prepared. They say work on the project has started without such crucial assessments.

52 killed in Russian mine accident

According to preliminary data, there were no survivors in the Listvyazhnaya mine, TASS reported, adding that most of the bodies remain underground and will be raised to surface when temperature and methane concentration allow.
