India’s forest and tree cover up by 1,445 sq km

India's forest and tree cover has increased by 1,445 square kilometers between 2021 and 2023, according to the biennial India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2023 unveiled by Union Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav in Dehradun on Saturday.

2024: A year marked by escalating climate change impacts in India

India concludes another year dominated by extreme weather, with climate change fuelling an alarming rise in disasters across the nation. India experiences the full spectrum of climate impacts, including heatwaves, floods, droughts, cyclones, wildfires and erratic rainfall patterns.

Empower women in climate action

The year 2024 is on track to be the warmest on record. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, the past ten years have been the warmest decade on record and global warming is quickly increasing climate extremes, impacts and risks.

Climate costs

As the relentless march of climate change continues to reshape our world, the looming threat to residential property is becoming increasingly apparent.

Bioenergy route

India is hugely dependent on petroleum imports (about 90 per cent of its requirements). India with a paradigm and planned shift from petroleum fuels can leverage biofuels and bio-based chemicals and polymers, which are nearly carbon neutral, offering the best way forward for energy security, and reducing imports of petroleum.

Crisis Escalates

As Earth continues to spiral into a climate crisis, the recent revelation of March 2024 marking the 10th consecutive month of record-breaking heat should serve as an unignorable wake-up call.
