A day after the Kerala High Court ordered a Crime Branch investigation into the remarks made by Minister for Fisheries, Culture and Youth Affairs, Saji Cherian, which allegedly disrespected the Constitution of India, the CPI-M has decided not to seek his resignation.
The Kolkata High Court has granted seven days interim bail to Anarul Hossein, one of the key accused in Bogtui murder case for his daughter’s marriage ceremony on Tuesday.
The matter could not be taken up for hearing due to the non-sitting of Justice Surya Kant-led Bench.
In a major setback for the DMK government, Madras High Court on Wednesday entrusted to the CBI, the probe into the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which claimed 68 lives in July this year.
The process of framing charges in the coal scam will start in CBI Special Court at Asansol on 25 November.
Taking exception to the manner and tone of the transfer petition of the CBI, a bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih said, “This is casting aspersions that the entire judiciary is under hostile environment.”
Sources said the most crucial clause of the concerned entity having requisite expertise and experience in implementing similar technical projects was overlooked in this case.
The court ordered that they cannot be discharged from the case now as it found that there is enough evidence against the duo. Both -- Jayarajan and Rajesh -- will now face trial in the case.
Ruling out religious conversion angle in the suicide of a 17-year-old class 12 student at a Christian aided school in Thanjavur district on January 2022, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed Madras High Court Bench in Madurai that she was not coerced to change her faith to Christianity.
