The second phase of the survey, which is likely to be held from April 1 to April 30, will collect data pertaining to people of all castes, sub-castes, socio-economic conditions, etc.
A caste-based census is now a reality in Bihar with the Nitish Kumar government deciding to conduct it in a time-bound manner in 9 months and complete it by March 2023.
His statement comes at a time when BJP's Bihar wing leaders realised that they should not stop or delay caste census in the state further after the announcement of the chief minister.
Although the JD-U has been a part of the ruling NDA for the past four years, the BJP has been silent over these two demands being repeatedly raised by its key Bihar ally.
When asked about the Prime Minister's stand on the issue, Kumar said, "He (Modi) did not deny it (caste census) and heard everyone patiently. A caste-based census will help in formulating various development plans effectively."
A BJD delegation from both the lower and upper house had met Home Minister Amit Shah today at his parliament chamber and underscored the need for the caste-based census in Odisha.
Nitish Kumar has sent a letter to the PM, urging him to give time so that members of all parties of Bihar can meet him and share their views on the issue.
