A two-storey building on Thursday collapsed in Kabir Nagar, Welcome killing two and critically injuring one person, an official said.
A day has passed but there are concerns about two more people still being trapped under the concrete in Garden Reach.
Nine other injured are also undergoing treatment at a nursing home close to the accident site.
Since the banks in the building were closed today, there was not much activity, leading to less rush of people in the building.
“This was a ghastly incident. The KMC had already warned the residents of the building regarding a possible collapse. The structure was identified in the KMC’s dangerous building category but no heed was paid to our warnings. Such incidents will continue unless there are proper laws to strengthen eviction in cases where residents are continuing to live despite the precarious condition of the building.”
According to a statement released by the district spokesperson, Rs two lakh will be given to the families of labourers who lost their lives and Rs one lakh to those critically injured due to the collapse of a three-storey building on Sunday night.
"The team had rescued one Pradeep at around 9.25 p.m. last night and have pulled out two other bodies during the night-long operation. Our fourth companion Rahul alias Tinny Bhardwaj's body was pulled out Monday afternoon," said Vijay Kumar
Police said that the weekly markets that function from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. were closed down for the past two months following the Covid-19 pandemic. The markets were to reopen on Monday at 6 a.m. and farmers from various villages around Anthiyur frequent the market to sell their products.
The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), a non-regulatory federal safety agency within the Department of Commerce, is expected to announce that they will launch an investigation to determine the technical cause of the collapse of the building located in Surfside.
