The Railway Protection Force of the Northeast Frontier Railway has launched joint patrols in coordination with the Government Railway Police and the Border Security Force to bolster security along the India-Bangladesh border.

DIG and Spokesperson, South Bengal Frontier, BSF, N K Pandey, claimed on Sunday that a Bangladeshi smuggler was killed after BSF personnel fired in ‘self-defence’ along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in the North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal, and recovered 175 cough syrup bottles of Phensedyl.

Speaking to The Statesman, the station house officer (SHO), Lakhoke Behram police station in Ferozepur, Bachan Singh said the two men, identified as Ratanpal and Harvinder Singh, belong to Jagraon area of Ludhiana.

Officials said the intruders wanted to move to Siliguri for livelihood.
During the intensive checking of the area in the morning, 3 packets of suspected heroin and a Pakistani drone were recovered from the area, according to a BSF Spokesman here.
Continuing the fight to detect illegal migrants, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of North East Frontier Railway, apprehended as many as 62 foreign nationals, in the month of June, for illegally entering India, officials said on Saturday.
