Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 70 kilograms of brown sugar from across the state.
The arrested drug peddler booked under Sections 21(c)/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 provisions was later remanded to judicial custody.
BSF is persistently putting efforts to make society, drug-free by enforcing the rule of law and such seizures of drugs is a decisive step in this direction.
Paramita Pandey, sub-divisional police officer, NCC Subdivision, Agartala said the drive was conducted to make Tripura addiction-free.
It further said that the estimated value of seized brown sugar is approx Rs 1,10,98,000 crore in the international market.
The drug peddlers possessing 1.060 kilograms of brown sugar were nabbed near Balasore railway station area on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, the STF flanked by local police conducted a raid and intercepted the accused person- Sk Rafiq (a native of Panchkula in West Bengal) with the drug haul.
On interrogation, the accused persons revealed that they procured the banned substances from Balasore district to smuggle it in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr. S Muralidhar and Justice A K Mohapatra had earlier sought the disposal of narcotics seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
