After more than four years of the first round of cracks and crevices, residents of the subsidence zone in Bowbazar are seeing new rays of hope.
In what comes as a ray of hope for the displaced residents of the subsidence affected zone in Bowbazar, the implementing agency of the ongoing Metro project in the area, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited, has finalised the tender for reconstruction of the houses.
The state government has decided to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to each family whose house developed cracks in the Bowbazar area of the city.
While the authorities of the implementing agency are hoping to complete the reconstruction of the damaged buildings by December 2024, the residents are claiming they would thank their stars if the promise is fulfilled.
The work that had been halted in September lats year, is being resumed after more than five months in the city's gold hub which witnessed cracks, cave-ins and crevices due to tunnelling in one part of the East-West Metro Corridor turning hundreds of residents into refugees overnight and costing the evacuees their lifetime earnings.
The first phase of Line-2, covering around 5.7 km, would serve as a vital link of transportation for the residents of Salt Lake.
However, the club members, who had cancelled the plans of holding the Puja this year, are now putting in their efforts to ensure they do not give it a miss.
The news of the plan for demolition has added to the agony of their occupants.
