The 152nd-ranked Coric had a week of tennis he will never forget, defeating five straight top-20 opponents in Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Cameron Norrie, and lastly Stefanos Tsitsipas, according to DPA.
Medvedev had a 7-2 advantage in their previous meetings, but Tsitsipas, the seventh-ranked player in the world, prevailed in two hours and 23 minutes, according to DPA.
Nadal's defeat ends his bid for a return to the top spot in the ATP Rankings this week. The World No. 3 will have another chance to leapfrog Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev at the US Open.
Earlier, Manchester United star Nemanja Matic had spoken in defense of his Serbian compatriot Djokovic.
Following the news that Djokovic and his wife have contracted the virus, the remainder of the tournament was cancelled.
"I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that everyone will be fine," the Serbian tennis star said.
One member from the Djokovic coaching staff and another from Dimitrov's entourage have also reportedly tested positive for the virus.
Pictures on the tournament's social media site last week showed Dimitrov playing basketball with Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Marin Cilic.
Notably, Coric had defeated Dimitrov in the second leg of the AdriaTour in Zadar on Croatia's Adriatic coast on Saturday.
