Boris Johnson conceded while conducting the G-7 summit, that he had grown more pessimistic about the government lifting remaining limits on social contact on 21 June after daily cases reported across the U.K. hit levels not seen since February.
Johnson was back on his feet by Friday, taking short walks between periods of rest, in what his office described as the early stage of recovery.
On Tuesday evening, the prime minister's spokesman said his "condition is stable and he remains in intensive care for close monitoring."
The news about Johnson's health came as the number of coronavirus hospital deaths in the UK reached 5,373 - an increase of 439 in a day.
