Biological sciences: Addressing global challenges while building a successful career

In 2015, the United Nations outlined 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting our planet, and ensuring equality for all. These goals address a wide range of global challenges, including climate change, the biodiversity crisis, and pressing health issues like antibiotic resistance and cancer. Biological scientists play a crucial role in tackling these challenges and can also benefit from the diverse career opportunities available to them.

Learning from nature

Our activities have caused significant damage to ecosystems, leading to issues such as polluted air and water, income inequality, and a general sense of unease. Our civilization's principles have strayed from the "logic of life," which relied on living with nature and not merely exploiting its resources. We must find ways to restore our relationship with nature, and leaders need to have a deep understanding of the complex challenges we face to address them effectively.
