The year 2024 has seen the Ministry of Minority Affairs adding many feathers to its cap with a slew of schemes and programmes for the minorities. During the Financial Year 2023-24, National Minorities Development Finance Corporation (NMDFC) released concessional credit to the tune of Rs 765.45 crore covering over 1.84 lakh beneficiaries.
This amount includes a special Rs 250 gift from the Chief Minister to his "beloved sisters" for Raksha Bandhan, alongside the monthly Rs 1250 provided through the 'Laadli Behna Yojana', making the total amount to Rs 1500 per beneficiary for August.
The transfer was done with a single click during a large public meeting in Chhipri village of Tikamgarh district on Friday evening.
Thousands of beneficiaries of the Yatra from across the country will join the event. The programme will also be joined in by Union ministers, MPs, MLAs and local level representatives.
The state government has been distributing 5 kg rice per person per month to the left-out eligible beneficiaries covered under the State scheme called ‘State Food Security Scheme at Re. 1 per kg since October 2018. Now it will be free of cost.
During the meeting, the officials were astonished to note that the names of 58,493 BAY beneficiaries chosen from 16 blocks of Burdwan East district have gone missing from the official portal but how - this couldn't be ascertained. The names of the entire beneficiaries from Galsi- 2 block were deleted. The names were officially enrolled in 2019-20 year.

Sadly, the Prime Minister who launched this scheme with much fanfare did not know the extent of corruption a state like Tamil Nadu was steeped in. The scheme was abruptly stopped in the State after a scam of at least Rs 110 crore was detected.
The Chief Minister said that this scheme was started in May, 2018 with an objective to provide financial assistance to the youth to start their self employment ventures
