The benchmark indices surged 1.8 per cent on the back of strong gains in capital goods, banking, energy, and auto stocks on Tuesday.
At close, Sensex was up 654 points or 0.9 per cent at 76,555 and Nifty was up 206 points or 0.9 per cent at 23,163.
Benchmark indices extended gains from the previous session and ended higher on Thursday. Broader markets staged a sharp rebound from yesterday's selloff, outperforming their larger cap peers.
At the close, the Sensex rose 566 points (0.75%) to 76,404, while the Nifty gained 130 points (0.57%) to finish at 23,155. Market breadth remained weak, with 1,110 stocks advancing, 2,677 declining, and 107 remaining unchanged.
Sensex closed 33 points, or 0.04%, up at 81,086.21, while the Nifty 50 ended 12 points, or 0.05%, up at 24,823.15.
At close, the Sensex was up 149.85 points or 0.19 percent at 79,105.88, and the Nifty was up 4.75 points or 0.02 per cent at 24,143.75.
The Sensex closed 0.35% higher at 81,455.4, 285.94 points above opening price. The index traded between 81,828.04 and 81,434.32.
The benchmark indices ended flat on Monday stepping back from last week's record highs. FMCG clocked healthy gains as ITC, Hindustan Unilever and Nestle ended as the top three gainers on Sensex.
Sensex opened at a record high of 77,102.05, and pared some gains to close at 76,810.90, up 204.33 points, or 0.27 per cent. The index surged to create a fresh all-time high of 77,145.46.
