Heavy damage to public and private property was reported on Thursday owing to the downpour that triggered a flash flood downstream in the Beas River from Palchan to Patlikuhal in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
The Himachal Pradesh Police is conducting a search operation for people who might have been lost around the banks of the Beas river owing to monsoon rains and floods in the hill state.
Traffic movement from Kullu and Manali has been restricted due to falling stones at many places on the Kullu-Manali road and due to the increasing water level in the Beas River.
A police official said the incident took place at around 11.30 am near Bashing in Beas River in Kullu.
Kullu Deputy Commissioner Richa Verma instructed officials that the warning boards and signage are installed soon to caution tourist not to venture along river banks.
To get approval for any construction project, it is mandatory to have proper site disposal of the muck and debris, however the NHA has not created any dumping site.
The CM announced that the special girdawari, ordered by him earlier, will be completed at the earliest, paving way for release of compensation to the affected farmers.
