Battling Poverty
The primary goal of PDS is to distribute essential food commodities like rice, wheat and kerosene at highly subsidized rates to those below the poverty line, addressing the issue of food insecurity in the rural areas of India. Despite the criticisms of the programme and the quality of food grains distributed to the poor, its effectiveness in reducing consumption poverty cannot be denied. The reduction in destitution and the intensity of poverty will have to be attributed to the existence of PDS
