The fresh changes mean that the board has been changed in the Balurghat Municipality for the seventh time since the tenure of the elected board there ended three years ago. In Gangarampur municipality, the board is being changed for the second time now.
“A group of officials are hand in glove with such encroachers and they are encouraging the local people to occupy government land. The administrative board has remained silent on this. As the drains are occupied, there is no outlet for the water, which now flows on the roads. No one is ready to take the responsibility of the maintenance of the roads,” said one resident of Ward 22, Ranjit Das.
According to one resident of the municipality, Kabari Dey, cleanliness work in wards and sweeping of the roads have stopped altogether.
However, the district administration remained inactive, as always, ever since the lockdown began.
More than 40 families were evacuated to a flood shelter from Atryee colony.
