Delhi police have geared up for the smooth conduct of the assembly polls with adequate security measures ensuring the security of nominees carrying out rallies and road shows, as well as strict enforcement of the model code of conduct.
Nine nominations have been filed on Friday, on the first day of filing of nominations for the February 5 Assembly polls in Delhi.
The meeting, chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, was attended by senior officers from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, and J&K.
Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the BJP has sought suggestions from the residents of the city to be included in its ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto). The suggestions can be made through phone and email.
Party sources said that the next list of candidates for these two states would be released on Saturday or Sunday.
Except for a few Maoist pockets, polls are usually peaceful in the state, but the Commission wants to make the polls inducement-free after the bitter experience of Munugode bypoll.
The decision was taken by the poll panel after it received representations from several political parties and social organizations, urging it to revise the date of poll.
The chief minister, who was down with a viral infection, is scheduled to file his nominations on November 9 from the Gajwel and Kamareddy constituencies.
The BSP chief urged the commission to ensure that money power and government machinery are not used during the elections.
