Assam’s political scene has turned dramatic ahead of next month’s panchayat polls, with the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress exchanging theatrical jibes over election symbols and traditional attire.
As political tensions flare over BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s controversial criticism of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stepped into the fray, launching a sharp counterattack on the Congress party.

State-owned National Fertilizers Ltd (NFL) has announced that it will acquire an 18 per cent stake in a proposed joint venture to set up a new Ammonia-Urea complex — the Namrup-IV Fertilizer Plant — in Assam at an investment valued at approximately Rs 572.45 crore.
