Urgent relief measures have been undertaken by Leh's district administration.
SDRF’s Deputy Inspector General Ridhim Aggarwal says, “The SDRF mountaineering team has opened the outlet of the lake from the earlier 20 feet to the existing 50 feet with the help of the villagers in 3 days. With this the water level in the lake has receded by one feet.”
Sixty-eight bodies have so far been recovered after the February 7 disaster possibly triggered by an avalanche.
According to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority the search and rescue team has cleared debris from 170 Mts patch inside the tunnel.
The artificial lake near Muranda in Chamoli has now turned into a major hotspot with the visit of scientists, ITBP, SDRF and NDRF teams. Navy divers were used for the first time at the lake site recently. Using a handheld echo sounder, the divers performed the operation to study the depth of the lake.
So far 58 bodies have been recovered from the flood-hit area, DRDO team to join operation soon
