Paying homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives during the agitation for the abrogation of Article 370, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that the sacrifice of Hiranagar martyrs had heralded the relentless movement for J&K's total integration with the Indian Union.
Hitting out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his party's MP Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday said the fight for Jammu and Kashmir must center on restoration of Article 370 rather than settling for statehood, which he described as a "hollow promise."
Highlighting the importance of the abrogation of Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that it is after its revocation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that a new era of development began in the Kashmir valley which was hampered due to terrorism.
Slamming the ruling National Conference (NC), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticized the NC for its inaction on key issues, despite holding a significant number of seats, and asserted that the PDP would take the lead in fighting for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, statehood, and release of political prisoners.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was adjourned till Friday when chaos continued to prevail over the resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370 and 35A, a move that sparked immediate tension in the House.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, on Wednesday, described the resolution on the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir moved by the National Conference (NC) in the legislative assembly as “half-hearted” and “lacking conviction”.
The resolution, passed by voice vote, urged the Centre to engage in dialogue with elected representatives to restore the region's special status.
Parra moved the resolution soon after the election of the Speaker and as the members were waiting for Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to arrive and deliver his address.
"Those promising to restore Article 370 are betraying the people of Kashmir. No one has the strength to bring back Article 370," he told media persons.
