Paying homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives during the agitation for the abrogation of Article 370, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that the sacrifice of Hiranagar martyrs had heralded the relentless movement for J&K's total integration with the Indian Union.
Hitting out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his party's MP Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday said the fight for Jammu and Kashmir must center on restoration of Article 370 rather than settling for statehood, which he described as a "hollow promise."
Highlighting the importance of the abrogation of Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that it is after its revocation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that a new era of development began in the Kashmir valley which was hampered due to terrorism.
Slamming the ruling National Conference (NC), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticized the NC for its inaction on key issues, despite holding a significant number of seats, and asserted that the PDP would take the lead in fighting for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, statehood, and release of political prisoners.
There was lukewarm response to the polling in the valley due to the chilly weather, however, the turnout is expected to increase as the temperature would increase later in the day.
'We will raise the national flag only once our state flag is back. The national flag is here only because of this (the Jammu and Kashmir) flag and constitution,' she had said.
Youth, in particular, are growing restive on the issue and have stressed that they will accept nothing short of the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh as has been done in the country’s certain other tribal areas.
'Let me make it clear that we are not anyone’s puppets, neither New Delhi’s nor of anyone across the border,' he said.
The first meeting of the highest decision making body of the NC after 5 August last year when senior leaders of the opposition parties were put under detention was presided by the sitting MP and President of the NC, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah was also present in the meeting.
