Calling for a united resistance to the alleged “onslaught on ourpolitical and social rights”, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sundaytargeted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for “shying” away from taking afirm stand on Articles 370 and 35A.
Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday, asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to refrain from endorsing the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the BJP government in the preparation of business rules for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
The draft proposal for the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Assembly has triggered a controversy with the opposition calling it an overt endorsement of the central government's revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
J&K People's Democratic Party leader Zuhaib Yousf Mir sheds light on the abrogation of Article 370 and its emotional impact on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In this context, the Prime Minister’s reiteration of his government’s commitment to fostering grassroots democracy in the UT for which he sought the cooperation of all parties in first completing the delimitation exercise for Assembly seats, and the eventual restoration of full statehood, is welcome.
"Mehbooba ji, Tarigami sahib and I will attend the all-party meeting called by the PM. We hope to keep our agenda before PM and Home Minister,” Abdullah said.
The move is being seen as an olive branch to the alienated Kashmiri leaders most of whom were put under detention for more than a year after J&K’s special status was scrapped and the state split into two union territories on 5 August 2019.
This is almost two years after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government that such hectic activity was being witnessed among all political parties of J&K.
There was no mention of any support by the OIC nor demands on India nor any criticism of India’s Kashmir policy.
