J&K People's Democratic Party leader Zuhaib Yousf Mir sheds light on the abrogation of Article 370 and its emotional impact on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Paying homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives during the agitation for the abrogation of Article 370, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that the sacrifice of Hiranagar martyrs had heralded the relentless movement for J&K's total integration with the Indian Union.
Hitting out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his party's MP Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday said the fight for Jammu and Kashmir must center on restoration of Article 370 rather than settling for statehood, which he described as a "hollow promise."
Highlighting the importance of the abrogation of Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that it is after its revocation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that a new era of development began in the Kashmir valley which was hampered due to terrorism.
Slamming the ruling National Conference (NC), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticized the NC for its inaction on key issues, despite holding a significant number of seats, and asserted that the PDP would take the lead in fighting for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, statehood, and release of political prisoners.
Currently, the Hurriyat is incapable of playing any disruptive role in valley politics.
In this context, the Prime Minister’s reiteration of his government’s commitment to fostering grassroots democracy in the UT for which he sought the cooperation of all parties in first completing the delimitation exercise for Assembly seats, and the eventual restoration of full statehood, is welcome.
"Mehbooba ji, Tarigami sahib and I will attend the all-party meeting called by the PM. We hope to keep our agenda before PM and Home Minister,” Abdullah said.
The move is being seen as an olive branch to the alienated Kashmiri leaders most of whom were put under detention for more than a year after J&K’s special status was scrapped and the state split into two union territories on 5 August 2019.
This is almost two years after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government that such hectic activity was being witnessed among all political parties of J&K.
