The Supreme Court will deliver an order on October 17 on the plea of the former chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and Trinamool Congress leader Manik Bhattacharya challenging the Calcutta High Court's order in connection with the alleged irregularities in primary teachers' appointments.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and former president of West Bengal Board of Primary Education Manik Bhattacharya who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the teacher's recruitment scam has been remanded to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till October 25.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in its first charge sheet in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) scam, has pinpointed former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee as the principal mastermind behind the conspiracy.
ED had earlier arrested Partha Chatterjee, the then Minister, Government of West Bengal and his close associate Arpita Mukherjee on July 23.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 48.22 crore consisting of 40 immovable properties valued at Rs 40.33 crore and 35 bank accounts having a balance of Rs 7.89 crore in the Teachers Recruitment Scam in West Bengal, the agency said on Monday.
Finally, the court had extended the remand of both Partha and Arpita to 14 days and granted the central agency permission to quiz them in prison.
The source said that the agency is now trying to identify the locations where these flats have come up.
It was found that during the last few years, Arpita Mukherjee made trips to Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
Partha Chatterjee has claimed that many other top leaders dropped by at properties purchased in Arpita Mukherjee's name.
