India, China reach patrolling agreement, but ‘trust issues’ persist: Army chief

A day after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced an agreement between India and China to resume patrolling along the contested Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh ~ signaling potential disengagement and de-escalation of forces ~ Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted ongoing “trust issues” between the two countries.

And now a thaw

Both sides must hope that the visit will help mend fences, after a boundary dispute erupted between the two countries over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura, and led Nepal to publish a political map including these areas within its borders.

Cooling off

It remains to be seen if the former policeman’s ambition to enter the legislature attains fruition, but this turn of events has turned the spotlight on the police-politician nexus as seldom before.
