Khan, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the universities in the state, has sacked M.K Jayaraj, Vice Chancellors of Calicut University and Dr M.V Narayanan, Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit,citing that their appointments were not according to the UGC rules
“Our dreams about a happier, more developed and stronger India can become a reality only if we work in tandem to achieve our national goals of inclusive growth, transparency and above all, people's participation in governance,” Governor Khan said in his Republic-Day speech.
The court also observed that appointing people as personal staff is inappropriate without fixing any limits.
As per the act of Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university, the power to appoint the Chancellor is vested in the state government.
He is likely to seek an explanation from the syndicate for passing resolution against him; consults legal experts on possible actions against 11 VCs.
The court expressed its reservations regarding the Governor's communiqué issued on 23 October which asked the VCs to resign by 11.30 am on Monday.
The nine Vice Chancellors (VCs) of various Kerala Universities, who were asked to resign before 11.30 a.m. on Monday by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in his capacity as the Chancellor of the University.
As per an order issued on Sunday the Governor has directed Vice Chancellors of nine universities in Kerala to tender their resignations.
The statement of the governor was posted on his official Twitter account by the public relation office (PRO) of the Raj Bhavan.
