The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has written to union minister for fisheries, animal husbandry and dairy, Parshottam Rupala, requesting him to honour late comedian Raju Srivastava for his contribution in prohibiting illegal spiked bits which are used to control horses.
On behalf of PETA India, he wrote a letter to the Indian government asking for the rescue of the elephant kept at a temple in Tamil Nadu, India. PETA said inspectors from its Indian arm recently visited Jeymalyatha for a veterinarian inspection.
While the world concentrates on lions, gorillas and elephants being decimated, the giraffe is almost extinct. In the last 15 years the population of giraffes has fallen by 40 per cent. Now there are less than 80,000 left.
