The CBI said in a terse statement this morning that it has registered a case against its own SI, the Nagpur-based lawyer (Daga), and other unknown persons for certain allegations, including corruption.
An ED official related to the probe told IANS, "A charge sheet has been filed in the case and Deshmukh's personal secretary Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde have been named in it."
The Supreme Court on Friday said it would hear on August 3 a plea filed by Anil Deshmukh seeking protection from any coercive action in the money laundering case lodged by the ED.
Deshmukh has been accused of extortion from a bunch of Mumbai orchestra bars and money laundering, and the matter is being probed by the ED.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has carried out searches at 12 locations in Maharashtra, including the premises of ACP Sanjay Patil in Mumbai and Pune and the premises of DCP Raju Bhujbal in Mumbai and Ahmednagar.
The CBI booked Deshmukh and several others on April 21 after carrying a preliminary enquiry on the orders of the Bombay High Court. The court had passed directions on the basis of a petition filed by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, who alleged Deshmukh had demanded Rs 100 crore be collected as bribes from bars and restaurants in the city.
