Taking to Twitter, National in-charge of BJP's Information and Technology department, Amit Malviya said, "Have phones been hacked - NOT SURE. Who ordered the hack - NO IDEA. Where did the list of phone numbers come from - NO ONE KNOWS. Did the investigative story give any evidence to suggest who could be behind it - NO. This, in a nutshell, is the concocted Pegasus hack story."
The attacks on human rights organizations, activists and human rights defenders are only an extension of the various repressive policies and sustained assault by the government on those who speak truth to power, it said.
Director of Amnesty International India, Avinash Kumar called the incident 'another example of how the right to dissent is being increasingly criminalised in the country.'
None of the attacks have been claimed but Washington has repeatedly blamed Iran-backed military factions in Iraq.
