Mr Mitra, while opposing the Union Budget alleged that the Union government has announced 100 per cent FDI (foreign direct investment) in insurance sector but simultaneously it has not stopped collecting 18 per cent GST.

Amit Mitra, principal chief advisor to the chief minister and the state finance department, said, "There is no direction of financial growth in this union budget. There is nothing for the poor and middle class. The income tax structure remains unchanged. The Centre's budget is either a hoax or a lack of goodwill."
“We are now facing the worst situation with not only inflation on one side or stagnation on the other but both of them together. We have a sort of “stagflation” situation wherein the inflation rate is high, unemployment is the highest in 45 years and GDP is very low,” Mr Mitra said.
Mr Deb also assured participants at the Conclave that the state would resolve the land problems very shortly and that the Airports Authority of India can begin its Rs 500 crore project to expand Bagdogra Airport.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has also made some changes in upper limit gratuity amount, house rent allowance (HRA) and non-practicing allowance (NPA) for doctors associated with the state-run healthcare services and medical allowance recommended by the commission.
Mamata Banerjee had previously said that the summit would be held once in two years so as to help in making investments fructify.
“Our state’s performance in GST is one of the best in the country. Last March, Bengal was the only state which had targeted a 14 per cent GST growth and finally a higher growth has been registered,” said Mitra.
