Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan and Operation Sindoor, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval Thursday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter's residence here.
The Pakistani NSA, who is also the Director General of the ISI, has reportedly spoken to Doval in an effort to de-escalate the situation.
India is believed to have told friendly nations that it did not want to escalate the situation after carrying out missile attacks on terrorists' hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), but is ready to retaliate if the neighbouring country decides to escalate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump shared a hug as the latter welcomed the former at the White House
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is arriving here on Sunday on a two-day visit to hold talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on a range of issues across the breadth of the U.S.-India partnership – from space, defense, and strategic technology cooperation to shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
Khalilzad provided to his Indian interlocutors an update on the US peace and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan while recognising India's constructive contribution in economic development, reconstruction and humanitarian assistance to the war-torn nation.
Doval reportedly spoke to the people of the Markaz and appealed to them for help to aid the administration in combating the spread of novel Coronavirus.
Doval's statement assumes significance in the aftermath of Delhi riots where the Delhi Police was seen to have initially failed in containing the violence that eventually killed 48 people.
Although top government and police authorities claimed that the situation was under control now, there were reports of fresh violence from some areas with shops being set on fire.
The NSA has made it clear that lawlessness will not be allowed to remain in the national capital and adequate number of police forces and paramilitary forces have been deployed.
