The Telangana BJP has accused the BRS, Congress, and AIMIM of colluding to defeat its candidate as polling for the MLC seat for the Hyderabad local authorities constituency was held on Wednesday.
Kishan Reddy, who is also the BJP’s Telangana unit President, along with party MPs, MLAs and other leaders, staged the protest at Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund in the heart of the city.
The convention was attended by Muslim clerics as well as leaders of various parties with many wearing black bands on their shoulders as a mark of protest against the Waqf Amendment Act.
The meeting will be held at the AIMIM headquarters in Darussalam between 7 pm and 10 pm, and will be led by AIMPLB President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.
President Droupadi Murmu has given assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, as announced by the Law Ministry in a notification dated April 5 (Saturday). The Bill was recently cleared by the Parliament after intense and lengthy debates in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The Prime Minister in his public rally at LB Stadium last week had accused the Congress of being the ‘C team’ of the BRS while the ruling party’s working president KT Rama Rao has found the handprint of the BJP in the minority declaration of the Congress.
The BRS is confident of winning 14-15 seats in the city and around barring those which are under the AIMIM.
The Congress has fielded former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin from the Jubilee Hills constituency, while the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has retained its sitting MLA M Gopinath.
