After completion of their studies in the universities of Odisha, around 600 Afghan students are seeking extension of visas and scholarships as they are unable to go back to a troubled nation.
Some of these students arrived just days before the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. As the conflict kept brewing the US embassy in Kabul was also closed.
Around 11,000 Afghan students, including around 35 percent women, study in colleges and universities across India, with the largest chunk of around 5,000 in Maharashtra, according to Rahmani.
