The accident occurred on the Belatal Link Road in the Srinagar area of the district.
As per the report, a total of 4,61,312 road accidents have been reported by States and Union Territories (UTs) during the calendar year 2022, which claimed 1,68,491 lives and caused injuries to 4,43,366 persons
Nitin Gadkari, who has given high priority to reducing road accidents apart from his efforts at boosting road infrastructure, has said the government is spending about Rs 40,000 crore for removing "black spots" on roads.
This is one of the most death-dealing train crashes in India, including the Coromandel Express and Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express in which till now 233 people were killed and about 900 injured in Odisha. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap.
While inaugurating Road Safety conference on the theme ‘Safer & Sustainable Mobility with Innovations & Technology’ organised by business body ASSOCHAM here today, he said, “Automobile makers should come forward in the initiative for reducing road crashes. There should be research and innovation as vehicles should have adequate safety features for reducing road accident fatalities.”
At an event organised by NHAI/MORTH in collaboration with SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF), Gadkari said the government has accorded the highest priority to road safety and set a target of reducing 50 per cent of the road accident deaths by 2024.
As per the reports, 57 passenger trains were shut down and now only 85 trains are available for the various routes across the country
