Don’t write off champions: Nathan Lyon on Kohli’s recent batting slump
The Australian team must be hoping to take advantage of Virat Kohli’s prolonged batting slump when the two sides clash in the five-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar trophy
India’s tour to South Africa surely has been memorable for Kohli.
From getting doubted for his ability to lead Indian side in a long-term to being called ‘the best player in the world’, India’s tour to South Africa surely has been memorable for Virat Kohli.
However, the most memorable moment came after the end of the tour, when Indian skipper Virat Kohli was presented with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Championship Mace at the Newlands, Cape Town.
ICC has shared a video on its official Twitter handle with a caption that read, “A message for all India fans from @imVkohli after India retained the ICC Test Championship Mace as the number one Test side!”

In the video, Virat Kohli said, “Having received the ICC Test mace twice in a row, it is a very special feeling for all of us in the Indian cricket team and the support staff as well. And I want to thank all the fans of the Indian cricket team all around the world for making this possible, for supporting us in big numbers wherever we play and motivating us in the tough times”.
“We promise you that we will keep the hard work going and try to entertain you as much as possible and keep Indian cricket as high as we can for as many as possible. It’s been a collective effort of the fans and the team and hopefully, in the coming next 12 to 18 months where we’re going to play a lot of tough cricket away from home, we hope we can get the same kind of support from all the fans from across the world. We are very thankful and grateful to all of you and look forward to seeing you all in the stadiums again,” Virat Kohli added.
The Delhi lad also shared few photographs of Indian squad with the trophy and captained it, “Great way to end a wonderful tour and time for us as a team. Jai Hind.”
Notably, India had lost the three-match Test series to South Africa by 2-1. Thereafter, India bounced back and registered two consecutive series (six-match ODI series by 5-1 and three-match T20I series by 2-1) win.
