Don’t write off champions: Nathan Lyon on Kohli’s recent batting slump
The Australian team must be hoping to take advantage of Virat Kohli’s prolonged batting slump when the two sides clash in the five-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar trophy
As a player you also learn a lot from your leaders: MS Dhoni.
Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is arguably one of the finest captains India have ever had. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the Men-in-Blue won three major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies – ICC World T20 in 2007, ICC World Cup in 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
Though MS Dhoni is still in charge of Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, he has stepped down as Indian skipper and was succeeded by Virat Kohli in all formats of the game. Even after stepping down as captain, MS Dhoni is often seen and heard sharing his inputs with the skipper and other players on the field.
Meanwhile, during a promotional event of CSK, MS Dhoni was asked about the captaincy of Kohli and MS did not shy away from sharing his views.

“I always felt a good captain is the one who understands the individuals. Because if you don’t know a player’s strength or weakness, you cannot give him the proper advice,” MS Dhoni said during an event in New Delhi.
“I think it’s important how good you are as a team and how good you are as an individual, who helps others to perform,” added MS.
When asked whether Dhoni likes being a normal player or as a captain, he said, “Being a normal player is much more important. You work through the ranks. It helps you understand the game, the problems that you may face as a player. Once you reach the top you would know what an individual would be feeling.”
“As a player you also learn a lot from your leaders. Not only about how to conduct yourself but also about what not to do,” added Dhoni.
When Dhoni was asked about Kohli’s captaincy, who was once Dhoni’s deputy, he said, “He is very good.”
