Notably, this is not the first time when a cricket fan invaded the ground this season.
Earlier, during a match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, an Ajinkya Rahane fan did the same at the Sawai Mansingh stadium to meet him.
Before that, during a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, an MS Dhoni fan had breached security at Eden Gardens and ran up to the Chennai skipper and touched his feet.
In Saturday’s match, Virat Kohli found a massive support at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium despite donning the opposition jersey. Virat, who hails from Delhi, smashed 70 runs off 40 balls against the home team and helped his team in winning the game. The Kotla crowd was cheering for their hometown hero.
Opener Shubman Gill’s majestic 112, along with solid half-centuries by Shreyas Iyer (78) and Virat Kohli (52), propelled India to a massive 356 in the third and final ODI against England.
India had taken a 1-0 lead after their four-wicket win at Nagpur, but Kohli getting rested due to soreness in his knee had raised concerns about his fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19.
As the focus shifts to white-ball cricket, the two superstars of the format — Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli — will hope to get back to beast mode in the three-match ODI series against England as India begin their final preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19.
