Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, who’s reportedly paid a weekly wage north of £200,000, may be able to afford a bevvy of supercars right now, but the Belgian winger has revealed that his first set of wheels was a relatively-modest Mini Cooper.

While shooting a promotional video with Chelsea’s principal sponsor Yokohma Tires, Hazard was asked which car he bought with his first paycheck and the 27-year-old grinned as he divulged, “Mini Cooper, black.”

Considering Hazard made his first-team breakthrough at Ligue 1 side Lille in the 2007-08 season, it’s safe to assume he purchased the Cooper close to a decade ago.

An iconic car and one hugely popular across Europe, the Mini range starts from €20,000 while their top-end variant retails for about €30,000 (not including any add-ons or customisations),

The 30-second video also shows Hazard’s response whether he passed his driving test on the first attempt and the Belgian confirms he did.

However, Hazard saves the best for last when asked which person he would not like to be stuck with in a traffic jam.

“Good question, I don’t know,” the 27-year-old initially says before continuing, “Maybe Thibaut (Courtois) because he talks too much!”

Courtois and Hazard, teammates at club and international level, are fast friends and it’s clear the Blues winger can’t resist when afforded an opportunity to rib the custodian.

After their exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Barcelona, Chelsea will be smarting and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City in a FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
