Germany and Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world, but the 31-year-old’s latest Instagram post shows he’s not one to rest on his laurels.

Neuer, who only returned to competitive action for Bayern Munich on August 26 after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a fractured foot, was excluded from Joachim Low’s squad to face the Czech Republic and Norway for Germany’s World Cup qualifiers.

Die Mannschaft didn’t do too badly without their captain, as they edged the Czechs 2-1 before thrashing Norway 6-0 and are now virtually assured of qualification for next year’s World Cup.

It’s back to club football for a month now, with the next international break scheduled for mid-October.

And Bayern have started their Bundesliga title defence in impressive fashion, winning both their opening games without a hitch to lie second in the league table, behind arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund only on goal difference.

Die Bayern have a tough test up ahead this weekend, for they travel to TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday but with an almost-full complement of players available, should be able to eke out the win.
