After a sub-par tournament in Russia, Messi probably thought he was in good hands with one of his oldest sponsors, but clearly, ‘no one is safe’.

The 31-year-old superstar, who’s reportedly considering international retirement, is expected to link up with the rest of his Barcelona teammates on their tour of the United States sometime this week.

La Blaugrana were held to a 2-2 draw by Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend, although the Catalan giants managed to triumph 5-3 on penalties.

They next take on A.S. Roma at the AT&T Stadium on Wednesday (0730 IST) before wrapping up their tour of the States with a clash against AC Milan on Sunday (0530 IST).

While the La Liga doesn’t start until the 18th of August, Barcelona will be playing Sevilla for the Spanish Super Cup final on August 12.

The defending champions, Ernesto Valverde’s men begin their title defence with a home clash against Deportivo Alaves on August 18.

So far, Barcelona have made some serious moves in the transfer market.

Brazilian winger Malcom, French defender Clement Lenglet and midfielder Artur have all arrived at the Camp Nou for a cumulative total of €108 million.

More signings are expected, but Colombian defender Yerry Mina is said to be considering moving after just one season in the Catalan capital.
