Former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Waqar Younis, has reportedly requested the cricket governing body in the country, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consider his candidature for the designation of team’s bowling coach. If reports from Geo News are to be believed, Waqar Younis is said to be the most high profile applicant who has applied for this position.
Earlier PCB had announced that it was inviting applications for the coaching staff for the men’s national team. The announcement was made after PCB had decided against giving a new contract to Mickey Arthur and Azhar Mahmood. The applications will be accepted by 26 August.

Another former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, is rumoured to be contesting for the position of the head coach. While a different set of reports are stating that it is Waqar who is interested in being the head coach himself. However, Mishbah has emerged as the favourite to succeed Arthur as the head coach as he has already taken charge of the team for a 17-day camp which began on Thursday.
On the other hand, Waqar has already served as the head coach of the Pakistan team twice. His last stint as coach of the Pakistan team lasted from May 2014 to April 2016.
