Irish sensation Conor McGregor made history yet again with a stunning performance against Eddie Alvarez in the UFC 205 Main Card event, winning the Lightweight title by TKO in front of a vociferous Madison Square Garden crowd in New York on Saturday night.
The brash McGregor, who had infamously clashed with his opponent at the pre-fight press conference was too fast for his opponent, who had no reply and was barely able to touch the Irishman.
McGregor’s most famous fight probably will still be his lightning-fast TKO of Jose Aldo at UFC 194, when he won a title fight in a UFC-record time of 13 seconds. This win has frightening implications for the rest of his competitors, not just for the fact that he the first fighter to hold two weight titles (Featherweight and Lightweight), but for the manner in which he demolished a man who had just recently won the Lightweight title.
The first round started and ended with McGregor blazing away with a slick combination of hooks and jabs, twice stunning Alvarez. While the Philadelphia native recovered then, once he fell in the second round, the match official had to close the fight.
McGregor hit Alvarez with a stunning four punches in quick succession and as Alvarez started to fall one could feel the fight was over before he even hit the mat.
‘The Notorious’ has walked the talk and woe betide the poor soul who comes up against him in the Octagon next.
