‘New’ Indian Test opener Rohit Sharma went past the triple-digit mark for the third time in this Test Series and added quite a few achievements to his name.
During the ongoing India-South Africa Test Series, Rohit Sharma has already hit as many as 17 sixes and has surpassed Shimron Hetmyer’s tally of most sixes hit in a single Test series. Shimron Hetmyer had hit 15 sixes during the two-match series between West Indies and Bangladesh in 2018-19.
On Saturday, the stylish Indian batsman reached his sixth hundred in Test match cricket. Rohit reached his hundred with his third six of the innings.
Rohit recently became the record holder for hitting most sixes in a Test match. It was in the first Test in Visakhapatnam that the right-handed batsman registered 13 sixes against his name- one more than Wasim Akram’s 12 which had come during his 257-run knock against Zimbabwe in 1996.
Previous Indian record for most sixes in a Test belonged to Navjot Singh Sidhu who hit eight sixes against Sri Lanka in 1994. With this, Rohit now holds the record for most sixes in a match for India in all the three formats of the game.
In terms of overall sixes, it is New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum who holds the record for hitting most sixes in Test Cricket. Brendon McCullum hit 107 sixes in 101 Test matches. Gilchrist (100), Chris Gayle (98), Jacques Kallis (97) and Virender Sehwag (91) follow him on the list of most sixes in Test match cricket.
