Rohit Sharma has emerged as a different Test cricketer ever since he was promoted to open for the Indian team. After scoring a brilliant century in his first innings as a Test opener and following it with another triple-figure score in the very next innings, Sharma scored a double century in the third and final Test against South Africa in the ongoing series.
Scoring 212 in just 255 balls, the 32-year-old broke a flurry of records on the second day at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) Stadium in Ranchi. However, one particular record has got everyone talking and it is the record for the highest Test average at home after a minimum of 10 innings.
It is worth highlighting that Rohit now has an average of 99.84 in Test matches on home soil which is better than the previous record-holder Sir Don Bradman’s tally of 98.22.
Rohit Sharma scored as many as 1298 runs in 18 innings in Test matches at home which includes six centuries and five half-centuries. Here are his scores in his last nine innings at home- 82*, 51*, 102*, 65, 50*, 176, 127, 14 and 212.
In the ongoing series, Rohit Sharma also broke the record for hitting the most sixes in a Test series. He has already hit 19 sixes in the series. The record was previously held by Shimron Hetmyer who had hit 15 sixes in the series against Bangladesh in 2018-19.
