Former Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta, who is in New Delhi to promote El Clasico, has made a surprising prediction for Saturday’s mammoth La Liga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Speaking exclusively to The Statesman before the Real Madrid vs Barcelona game, the 40-year-old predicted a Barcelona win.

When pressed for a more exact prediction, the Italian replied: “Barcelona to clinch it 1-0 with Lionel Messi scoring the winner.”
Considering his Barcelona affiliation (Zambrotta spent two seasons with La Blaugrana), it’s perhaps not a surprise that he’s rooting for his former employers but the fact that he’s predicting no Real Madrid goals is interesting.
Most Clásicos have been entertaining games, with three or more goals a near guarantee and with Los Blancos in dire need of a win, it is unlikely the Catalans will be able to register a shutout against their arch-rivals even if they manage to emerge victorious.
Barcelona have begun the season in blistering form and top the La Liga rankings with a points tally of 42 while Real Madrid, who have a game in hand, trail La Blaugrana by 11 points.
The match kicks-off at 5.30 PM IST on the Sony Ten network.
